What are the key characteristics of Contemporary Art and what makes Contemporary Art different from traditional or modern art? Why has it become so popular and so contentious? This lecture will trace the development of Contemporary Art during the wave of movements in the Sixties (Fluxus, Minimalism, Land Art, Conceptual Art) that challenged all preconceptions of what art is and can do. These movements - which we can more accurately call crises - set the stage for the art of the ensuing forty years.
Main Artists: Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney, Yayoi Kusama
