Rabanus Maurus, Abbot of the monastery of Fulda, a wise Carolingian, and the Archbishop of Mainz, lived from 780 to 856 and embodied the figure of shepherd, man of God and attentive scholar of faiths requirements. Benedict XVI underlined this in his General Audience catechesis held in St. Peters Square on June 3rd.The Pope explained that Rabanus Maurus, author of the famous Veni Creator text, wished to offer to others the richness of the first Church Fathers biblical commentaries through his commentaries on the Word of God in a way that might today be called multimedia, because his works both include and combine the written word, poetry and imagery.
