Jeff is a model and leader of both local and global citizenship. His efforts are embodied in the work of the international environmental NGO that he founded and leads, Community Forests International (CFI). As Executive Director of CFI (www.forestsinternational.org), engaging and empowering others in local activities that contribute to both local and global environmental health is a day-to-day activity. Through various education and community-based conservation initiatives his work joins rural communities and youth in Tanzania with middle-school students and tree-planters in Canada in a cooperative effort for good environmental education, restoration, and stewardship. The Global Schools Link (GSL) is just one of the many initiatives that Jeff leads, is an online portal that he developed to connect youth around the world in their environmental education and conservation activities. Participating schools engage in curriculum-aligned activities like school greening and share their experiences and lessons with other schools by logging onto the GSL (www.globalschoolslink.org), which operates like an electronic pen-pal network. Students gain a global perspective on their activities by sharing photos and stories about their environment with peers in other countries and continents.

"I'm inspired by the cooperation and energy people are willing to put behind positive environmental solutions" reflects Jeff when asked about what inspires him. "Individuals and their communities have the tools necessary to effect
positive environmental change, and often times a beginning is the only missing element. Prior to my environmental work, I was caught up in the quest for purpose found in many of my peers, and my work internationally and here in Canada has given me both meaning and a place in the world."
