Tips help APD identify mysterious woman

albuquerque police identify one of eight women shown in disturbing pictures. the women may have ties to the west mesa buried bodies case. police are following up on dozens of tips including some from across the country that came in after last night's dateline story. cristina rodda has more on what investigators have uncovered in our big story. police say about 130 tips have come in-- in the last two days--some from albuquerque others from across the country. a few of those callers identified three to four of the women-- in one case police were able to confirm the identity of one of the women. we want to warn you some of the pictures are disturbing. "her brother called us yesterday several times as well as another friend called and said who she was." police say cristina leyva-- the woman seen in this picture-- passed away a few years ago from medical problems. police also say they have good leads on another two to three women pictured here. a couple of tips that have come in we believe they might be in new mexico and they're alive that's something we need to talk to them about, if they knew any of the women from the west mesa." police won't say if the pictures came from ron erwin-- the joplin, missouri, man with ties to albuquerque during the time the west mesa women were discovered. they served warrants on his property but there's no way to know what police took as evidence since the warrants are sealed. but erwin has never been named as a suspect or even a person of interest. police are not saying where the pictures came from "i f we were to say this is where this is from that puts a lot of pressure to name a suspect and that's not a position the detectives are in at this point." a police spokesperson says the women in the pictures are very similar in appearance, approximate age and the way they dressed- to the west mesa victims. back to you. investigators are still asking anyone with information on this case to call the west mesa hotline at 877-765- 8273. we will continue to follow any developments on the investigation and pass on the information as we get it. you can also find updates anytime at kob dot com.. also on our website we've posted a detailed time line of the investigation--- from the first discovery of a human bone-- to the latest developments
