haha... they cut out the part where Leo was about to give credit to where he really got the stuff! So funny! But at the end you can see how much more practical Nene's movements are. Both of these guys have alot to offer a novice. Neither of them are trustworthy.

If you look a Wileys book Filipino martial culture. You see that nearly all the Masters in the Book at one time Trained under Leo Gaje. Pekiti Tirsia is now the Official Fighting system of the Entire Military of the Philippines. At a Gaje Seminar i was present when a U.S. Doce Pares Fighter(trained in Philippines)stood up and announced his Grand Master had sent him to Learn From Gaje. He was told there is none better if he wants advanced knife. I agree

btw, the dog brothers gatherings have been dominated by PTK fighters for decades. PTK was instrumental to the dog brothers due to Eric "Top Dog" Knaus and Phil "Sled Dog" Gelinas along with other kali/eskrima styles ("Crafty Dog" Denny is lameco kali). Name one well known doce pares fighter that stepped into the pit at DB and hold his own - not one. No disrespect to Doce pares, but it's ignorant to claim this style is better than that style... it's the fighter that makes the style work for him.
-
@po1batugan yeah? how so? Tom Bisio of PTK won as grandchampion in the first eskrima tournament in Cebu and he only had 3 years training at the time, versus doce pares fighters with 15+ years experience (and the committee wouldn't grant him as sole grandchampion 'cause he's american. They made the 2nd place doce pares guy co-champion). Momoy Canete even stood in Tom Bisio's and Leo Gaje's corner. GM Canete was already a legend in his local region, not before or after GM Illustrisimo.
-
@MarkShotokai Why do certain people feel the need to instigate trouble between systems? For your information, most Filipino masters don't like each other or get along... that's why there was so much in-fighting amongst them. If you've seen "eskrimadors," even GM Dionisio Canete confessed that the DP club was plagued with jealousies. Students would go around sayin "my master's style is better than your master's..."

"to be honest with you, I have had previous training in Silat"
I have a lot of interest in this video if anybody has an unadulterated copy...
-
Kali, business as usual lots of money in military contract, that's the truth! ilonggos don't even mention they where taught escrima (now kali) by spaniards they never won againts silat of mindanao (not taught to outsiders), that's the historical truth! like karate in the 70's & 80s was a money pit - McDojo anyone?
-
@clausnitzer that someone is Guru Michael Williams as well as his wifeGuru May Williams... very skilled and knowledged in the arts.
-
hi!
doce pares system is much better than PTK.
and according to the elders GM illustrisimo was a legend in Eskrima kali/arnis,
when GM illustrisimo died,
GM cacoy was now a legend
but leo gaje... he have so many claims
-
believe me, a D.Pares don' t need Pekiti.
Doce Pares ' master ?? who?
Cacoy challenged Gaje (no response).
Dionisio, hates him.
Gaje like the show , stories, invented challenges, and so on...
he never fought, not even the 1st Cebu tournament.Don ' t dig too much , what you ll find , won' t like you.
I saw doce pares knife and pekiti second one , there s no comparison.
cimande67, I did you a favor and removed your words

Actually there is someone in Salem, MA, U.S.A. who has trained with 4 Tortals as well as other GMs in the Philippines. He is still now continually training overseas on a regular basis.

To clarify, one of the Tortals mentioned was Leo Tortal Gaje, Tuhon Jerson "Nene" Tortal, Rommel Tortal (who at the time was a youngster), and more recently Jerson Jr.

Thanks-- I was also given some other clips. They look old with Nene tortal and Gaje teaching a seminar. I think 1995 or 1996. It was in Bago City I believe. If I can I'll convert it for Youtube. Right now it's VHS
