Dance does not necessarily mean a series of movement., regardless of what Webster might say. That is a very basic definition. I've been an expressive arts for many, many years and not saying i am correct but a bone of contention is that expression comes from the self, which is very different than other people expressing your moves. That is all i was trying to say. I am talking about digging deeper. Not just using moves you've done a million times. no insult. i think you are great!

You are referring more to the name of the studio. What we do is express who we are as a studio. Not freestyling to a classical beat. The name expressive dance describes who we are as a goup, not individuals. As in individuals we express thru OUR choreography and the pieces that we share. Just becuz people do my choreography doesn't mean they're not expressing themselves. They are, they're expressing what they love to do and it's to dance.

i hate to be a nay sayer but expressive dance means no choreography...it is expressive; meaning you express yourself by your own moves. Probably the scariest thing one can do. Humans are not all that comfortable expressing themselves. Being told to do someone elses choreography is expressing THEM not you. not bad for high school though

Expressive means to convey a meaning or feeling. Dance means a series of moves rhythmically to a beat. Putting both together doesn't necessarily mean free form movement. You can express yourself in many ways. The reason in starting this studio is to grow people in dance to either EXPRESS in choreography or freestyle. becuz it's choreographed doesn't mean it's not expressing one's self. To be honest I think it's more difficult to choreograph than to freestyle. Both are ways of expressing dance.
