In October of 2005, I was invited by my instructor in Columbia College's Semester in L.A. program to represent the school on CNN's headline news. The result is confusing, embarassing, and a testament to how far you can go by wearing a retarded t-shirt and having no idea what you're doing.
Beforehand Columbia's Publicity Agent told me "CNN might ask you to do your best 'Jack'."
"Jack who?"
"Jack, you know, the flamboyant one. You'll be on the Will and Grace set."
"But I've never seen the show."
::silence::
"Don't tell CNN that."
The finished segment is an abomination of cheap cuts, out of context manipulations and cloying voice-over that does not in any way reflect reality or the events of that day, including, but not limited to, a story about how I wasn't nervous being trimmed and prefaced with "BOY IS HE NERVOUS!"
Still, thanks to Columbia College, and I cannot recommend the Semester in L.A. program more highly, as long as you know what you're getting into if they ask you to be on TV.
I am on your bandwagon !
