Recent studies carried out by the department of musicology at Glasgow University (UK) have proved that the front man and leader of this band is actually a cyborg. Suspicion arouse after visualizing the video several times and stating that when performing flawlessly some guitar licks of high difficulty, his face remained inexpressive and lacking any sign of emotion as seen in minute 4:55 or in minute 8:30 onwards.

This is the best concert they did for TV!

Figure this?
from about 8.30 onwards Chris White is playing the saxophone non-stop, but you can hear the tamborine being played.
Is it a tamborine or a special drum that Terry Williams is hitting?

@avidbookreader no problem mate, just helpin' out a fellow dire straits fan :) the internets a great place to find out info on his guitars, if you simply search "mark knopfler and his guitars" on google search and click on one of the first links (from a site called "oneverybootleg"), you can get info and pictures on almost every guitar knopfler owns. if you want more info then go to mk-guitar/dot/com. i learned SO many facts about knopflers sound on that site. cheers mate, hope i helped :)

@Hobinator17 Thank you for telling me about that custom made guitar, sir. You've been very kind and very helpful. Envy your knowledge. I adore Mark, love everything he does (*cough* I don't think this obsession will ever end), always eager to learn things about him, especially about those guitars he plays/used to play. For some reason I can't seem to stop watching this videos. Maybe it's because in the way the camera focused on his fingers, I found it so incredibly fascinating.:)

@avidbookreader yes this is the guitar he used on the bug. the guitar was custom made by john suhr in 1986, and mark loved it as soon as he got it in his hands. john suhr said in an interview that he spent a whole day on the neck alone, mark was always very picky on his guitar necks. the guitar has duncan alnico pro pickups in it, and even tho the headstock says fender, its not a fender guitar

Superbly brilliant. Easily one of my favourite versions of Sultans, for sure. I've always felt that this performance is very different from the other versions in many ways, one of them being the guitar Mark uses. This is the only time I've seen Mark plays Sultans with that guitar. Please pardon my ignorance, but what type of guitar is it? Is it the same one he played on "The Bug" live at 91-92 On Every Street tour?

Dog Swede1 -one correction -Knopfler has used red stratocaster during Shangri -La Tour for lots of songs including Sultans, I've been to one of the concert so I've seen it plus you can check youtube and you'll see the red signature Strat in Mark's hands during that tour -2005
