It seems to me that frequency analysis is a much neglected field. Part of the problem appears to be one of terminology - until now the field has not really had a proper name. At the moment, if you search for the term "frequency analysis" on the internet, you will mostly find pages relating to cyphertext frequency analysis - which is a branch of cryptography. The cryptographers are making excellent use of this fine term - however few others are doing so. The point of this video is to try and change that.

  • Frequency analysis is also used for audio and video processing and powers the humble jpeg.

  • @motters2001 Yes. I mention continuous signals at the start, but then say: "here, I will mostly be discussing frequency analysis of categorical data". Similar advocacy isn't needed in the domain of continuous signals.

  • your beard is legitimately awesome and the information you provide has a depth that's far from native to youtube. this is precisely why i feel it incumbent upon myself to prompt you into looking for a better microphone and adding a visual element perhaps via flash studio to supplement the richness of the content belied by the spartan talking head approach. i know asking people to purchase pricey equipment to enhance my experience is bastard behavior but i think being a bit of bastard has use =)

  • Just a purely ad hominem presentation note: The dead eyes and flat read aloud monologue coupled with an exaggerated masticating motion of your mouth while exposing the upper and lower teeth with each syllable is a bit off putting for me. Perhaps others enjoy it though. Then again, there are memes for good presentation that abound, and perhaps your looking to avoid those in favor of something else, or to maintain your perspective as an outsider.
