The first thing that state needs are people that recognize how unique and different compared to other states. Instead of falling for "well, the other kids are doing it" mentality, we try to hold on to our values. Instead of being praised, we are labeled, backwater, redneck, out of touch Mainers. And of course, as long as the media is backing it up, it will slowly affect us one generation at a time. I wonder if I'll live long enough to see a priest go to jail for standing for his beliefs.

Maine needs more access to higher education -- more colleges. Maine would benefit from a welcoming and thriving film and television industry. So many wasted chances go by, while stories set in Maine are filmed in Vancouver. If you want to keep the young people in Maine, they need a reason. These two suggestions would help.
