Oh Katarina - Ich liebe dich! A great loss when these two turned pro but at least we still had the fantastic Midori Ito.
Actually, I thought Liz Manley should have won this event. Not as stunning as the Olympics but Witt really played safe on the free and was extremely lucky winning figures here. Manley had triple lutz & flip although not perfect but still enough for her to win the free. Think the judges decided to let Katarina go out on top.

Liz screwed the combination in the short ... it was which being the short meant trouble by the rest of the program was fine !

@premierrules Absolutely. Isn't she just wonderful ? Great quality and very beautiful. I always enjoyed her great performance.

@Marchjoy1963 Never figured Witt would be an old maid. She probably has lost count of how many men she has been with.

Just another east german steroid queen.

That's shallow. You sound pretty ignorant. Katarina Witt was allowed to turn pro if she won a second gold medal for East Germany, most athletes (from communist contries) were expected to coach instead of being allowed to turn pro. And when people have a chip on their shoulder about Debi Thomas, its because she demonstrated a total lack of sportsmanship at the Olympics (not hugging or shaking the hands of her fellow medalists.) It has nothing to do with her sking color. *sigh*

Instead of parting she took steriods.

Wonderful interview by both ladies. Well deserved win for Katarina. Her LP was not her best, but she was most consistent over all 3 segments of the competition. Liz had a disastrous short program. Thomas had terrific sort but disastrous long program.
Is that Toller Cranston questioning these ladies?
