High Ranking DOJ Official Refuses to Affirm 1st Amendment Rights

In a Constitution Subcommittee hearing yesterday, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) questioned Assistant Attorney General, Thomas Perez, over the Administration's commitment to 1st Amendment rights. Franks' questions were prompted by a Daily Caller article from late last year in which Perez was quoted as warmly embracing the proposals of Islamist advocates in a meeting at George Washington University, among them a request for "a legal declaration that U.S. citizens' criticism of Islam constitutes racial discrimination."

Perez reportedly ended the meeting with an enthusiastic closing speech and was quoted as saying, "I sat here the entire time, taking notes...I have some very concrete thoughts ... in the aftermath of this."

In yesterday's hearing, Chairman Franks asked Perez to affirm that the Administration would "never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion?" Perez refused.

Ok, for the TRULY STUPID people in the audience: Perez was obviously doing everything he could to duck the question and BS the committee. Rep. Franks wasn't going to put up with the BS, and wanted a simple "yes" or "no" to a simple question.

The statement "All religion should be criticized" seems pretty small minded to me. What do you have to gain in criticizing people for their beliefs especially if they are non violent or non criminal? Is the statement "All gay marriage should be criticized." fair? How about "All Obama supporters should be criticized."? I believe that we should all have the RIGHT to criticize or voice our opinion or beliefs, but doing it because you don't value those that belief is immature and akin to bullying.

Or covet other people's stuff. And also tell them to work hard and complete all of their work. No true Christian will break the "Just" laws of man or any law of God. Franks is a guy who never tires of accusing others of politicizing matters. What is this if not pure political bullying? A religious nut is a religious nut. Christian or Muslim they're all the same and just as dangerous in thwe long run. Right now the Muslims are more violent but give the Christians a while. They'll catch up.
