Here are some photos of AA Fuel Altereds, AA Gassers, & Funny Cars to view wth The Beach Boys doing 'Little Deuce Coupe,' The Four Speeds doing 'My Stingray,' & Barry McGuire doing 'Eve of Destruction.'
Nice video, watched a lot of these cars run, Still have a friend that runs the Orange Crate front engine nitro dragster and every time he takes it out people just can not believe how things use to be. He holds top miles per hour for his class for over 10 years now. Awsome car.
DRAGRACING STARTED TO DIE WHEN THEY OUTLAWED THE HEMI SO THE CHEVYS AND FORDS COULD WIN. FORD 2ND TO CHRYSLERS HEMI CARS WITH THEIR 429 BOSS HEMI. CHEVY HAD TO HAVE RULES TO WIN.
Those cars were before my time but I love to see em. Reminds me of how hard I work on my car to get another tenth out of it and how it depresses me that the day of decent sponsership is pretty much a thing of the past. Back when you could get creative and have an edge, until your competetor got more creative. Back when dodge won on sunday and then sold cars on monday. I love the cars of today but it's not the same. only way you have a chance to to get a once in a lifetime sponsership deal.
I spent every waking moment of my life at SoCal dragstrips from the end of 1963 until I was drafted (Army) in 1969 so it was fun to watch this. I do, however, rememeber funny cars BEFORE they were ever floppers. Guys like Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick in his 421 blown Pontiac powered LeMans and so so many more. The Stone-Woods-Cook car was one of my favorites ~ in part ~ because originally they used Oldsmobile motors (394 blocks) because the Olds bottom end was so strong. Great memories.
Great Video except for the PHONY Dick Harrel car. It's a nasty blemish upon the rest of the video, though no falt of your own. We're just sick of seeing the car that caused so much grief to so many in the drag racing community.
It is funny how that guy that built the 68 Dick Harrell Camaro f/c conned everyone in the business into thinking the car was the REAL one. What is really bad is that the Camaro was one from another popular driver: Huston Platt. Yes that Camaro is the Dixie Twister that Huston drove in 67-68. The guy has since sold it.....
