Jim is real. Read "The Basketball Diaries", it's an autobiography he wrote as a kid.

@soxrock2007 All that's probably true. I listen to it every day, as loud as I can stand it;

Make no mistake...the lyrics herein are some of the greatest works in American culture. Jim Carroll's 'City Drops' is razor sharp, deeply and desperately poignant and relevant. Jim's words rip and tear at your heart strings and somehow elevate your soul to a conscious understanding of your individual pain and suffering, yet, his words sooth. He fans the flames of our own 'resurrection'. He is John Lennon and Edgar Allen Poe. He is a lyrical surgeon, with a rusty scalpel. His pain, our pleasure.

The body at the bottom.

My all-time-favorite of all his songs.
Hope he's in a better place now, feeling no pain forever.

@drov Me to.
Lyrically and musically - this song is a great experience. Put on headphones and just think about it and I guarantee that the next day you will be walking around and some of those lyrics will pop into your head and you'll come back to listen to the song again. That's the impact of a good artist with something to say. The music business doesn't allow artists to express like this anymore. Look for Jim's TV appearances - no designer ripped jeans and professionally styled punk haircut. Miss him.
