In anticipation of Indian Independence Day, a group of South Asians and their allies gathered across the street from the Indian Consulate to protest against the Indian military's crackdown on peasants, indigenous peoples and "tribals," or Adivasis, and on the poor (the so-called "Operation Green Hunt"). At the same time, the protesters raised their voices against the ongoing occupation of Kashmir by the Indian military, and the latter's vicious assault on the rights of Kashmiris. In this segment, an activist reads out the text of a petition that the group delivered to the Indian Consulate later that day.
