@groblerful I appreciate the sentiment. But there's no need to be ashamed of that. Those soldiers were acting under orders. The ones who are culpable are the ones who gave those orders, not the poor bastards who got shipped off to die far away from home in Africa.

Hi Bonehead. My father was over there in 1980 while my mother was pregnant with me. I hold in such a high regard my heart every SADF soldier who was there in defense of their country, and feel a strong sense of empathy for the feeling of betrayal they experienced when the NP government betrayed them and their sacrifice and hard work over there. My father was a parabat in the SADF. This country will never again have the same quality military that it had at those times.

@AfrikaansPretoria Hi Only saw this today: All my research seems to indicate (rounded off to the nearest..) is that there was about 1000 Dutch (Cape Dutch known as Afrikaners), 300 French Huguenots, 6000 German, 8000 English forming the base of identifiable groups. I haven't seen anything to contradict this. My own family were Transvaal German Boers (Schneiders & Pohls) and they detest the fact that Boers are NOW called 'Afrikaners' - apparently even refused to speak Kitchen Dutch [=afrikaans])
