3D Pilot Michael Wargo and Robert Griffin, AKA RCRedBaron team up with HobbyKing For A how to Fly 3D series of tips to help RC pilots learn to fly the full range of 3D maneuvers. This is Part 2 of the series and Features the harrier and elevator.
Note: For clarification, the Neutral Point (N.P.) is the Aerodynamic Center of the whole aircraft, or in other words the "center of lift," or location where you can say lift acts as a point force if all lift is averaged out across the horizontal surfaces on the plane. For stability, the Center of Gravity must be *in front of* the N.P., and if it is too close to the N.P. the plane will be so sensitive you can't control it. A C.G. *behind* the N.P. causes the plane to try to fly backwards.
@mtwargo About NOT making it tail heavy, I'm glad to hear this confirmed from an experienced 3D pilot finally.I've been wondering about this for months, & every time I heard someone on a video say to "make the plane tail heavy for 3D and hovering" it really didn't sit right with me.I just got a B.S. in Aeronautical engineering from the US AF Academy and my academia tellsme that shifting the CG back will simply *destabilize* the plane and make it harder to hover if too close to the Neutral Point.
Once Again the Redbaron and Mike impress the hell of out me. Information is great, the editing and display of all this information was fantastic. You guys make a great team. BTW. the guy that said something about the flying below stall speed, ignore that guy. some folks just run their mouth before their brain has a chance to tell them to shut the hell up. You will always have haters. The jealous ones. With out their own show. Congratulations again gentlemen and superb work.
Another great video guys. Maybe Hobbyking could do some 3D plane giveaways with each of the 3D video series :o) Seeing they missed this one they can just send the giveaway plane for this one to me!!!
