Its ironic to hear the pompous talk about American Soldier civic actions winning over the Vietnamese by building schools, roads and churches and defeating the Viet Cong rebels when the thugs in their society will just take-over the minute we are not there if we do arm the people themselves for self-defense and seal off the border with a physical sensor/security fence to deny outside infiltration through closed terrain:

Gunslinging is not the only or best form of military force available to smother conflicts. In closed terrains like in Vietnam the answer is COMBAT ENGINEERING to secure linear borders or else porous, non-linear conflicts will follow that even millions of gunslingers couldn't stop.

Here's an U.S. Army Command & General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) report by Infantry officer, Major William Sutey on the need for cross-country MOBILITY (XCM) from M113 Gavin light tracked tanks to improve LIGHT INFANTRY FORCE mobility, protection and firepower. READ IT.
