Direct once more from Neuner comes the Midland Base Camp. And its EXCELLENT. Quirky and feature packed its madness. Marine Radio, AM/FM Radio, PMR, Marine Band Receiver, wind up handle on the side and external mike (comes with it) flashlight, USB connection, alarm clock and shoulder strap and handle. I am shocked to say, in the first trial (more to come) it is excellent, oh man it works well and I could speak 9km (almost 5miles) easily. Come on Greenfingers Mick, you know you need to get one. More later of this one, but it is indeed something new, different, and when out and about think it will be fine. Modifications?? Not sure now, new board inside but if this could make 2 or 3w then would be so nice indeed. There is a dual band PMR/LPD and a single band PMR, mine is the single band. 8 normal NO CTSS channels and then 9-24 with a mixture of the 8 with different CTSS codes. So, 8 no CTSS, 8 with code 16 and 8 with CTSS code 31. Come on Midland, how do i make mine the dual band version then guys? I know you read here let me know if possible? LPD MOD NOW FOUND: 1 jumper and 69 channels appear..... OH, and HI Power mod found,,, now even more MEGA Piece of kit....

  • This would be a great to take on Scout camps. is an antenna socket mod possible?

  • Possible with a small wire to a BNC socket, its a bugger of a job but seems to work.

  • I love MIDLAND XT511 TWO-WAY BASE STATION

  • And do yours make more than 500mw? These can do 3w ish when modified. Thanks for posting :) Simon

  • Hi! The radio has CTSS and DCS indeed however the squelch has two settings on and off. So, there is a monitor button that opens the squelch on every channel and press one more time and it is closed. Not variable just on/off. Best Wishes Simon

  • I like the look of this radio, I can see some nice go-packs being built around these units. Maybe a nice fold up base antenna. Shame about the price though :(

  • Sadly these days good things come at a price. There are a fair few accessories with the unit, and indeed the EU price maybe is not the same as UK. I just converted it with an online conversion. Check with Alan UK, am sure Colin or Lance can let you know?

  • detects air band? i need this for aviation?????

  • i would like to know how well it charges cell phones maybe small camera

  • I don't know much about these, but if I had one of these at home and my other party was out would they need to use 2 way radios to talk to me or is it CB radios? Or will either work. Also does it have to be a midland brand? Thanks a lot

  • @simonthewizard Where could I find the know-how for the modification? The PMR module, of course. High power TX, and perhaps external antenna?

  • if im using the 2way radio lightly how long do you think the battery life is, and can i obtain a full charge from the crank handle?

  • good morning

  • I've seen these selling for $60-$70 almost everywhere that carries them. Not much different than a decent pair of gmrs walkie talkies. To me, it's one helluva good buy.
