That was quick! I never expected a reply and its put me out of mysery! Funny, I guessed it was Mahler, cos if there is anything i cannot place, then its usually Mahler in his many disguises - he can sound like Dvorak, Grieg, Shostakovich, Sibelius, anybody - but put to motorbikes and Masham he's equally masterful! Out of your list, I would go for Shostakovich - the rest are too 'Romantic' - Mahler & Shostakovich ( and Bruch & Bruckner ( you missed them out !! )) had an edge - I live in a little village near Darlington, and no, I don't think I know your sister (yet!).
