Performed in Tokyo, Japan on July 02, 2010
Mirei Yamagata is a Japanese dancer/choreographer/actor who grew up in Japan, Germany, and the U.S. She was based in Minneapolis (U.S.A) from 1997-2003. She has performed with theaters such as Mixed Blood Theater, Theater Mu, Pillsbury House Theater. After returning to Japan she has studied Butoh extensively with Dairakudakan, Kim Itoh, and Tohru Iwashita. She has performed her pieces in venues such as die pratze, STSPOT, Komaba Agora Theater, and the Weisman Art Museum. In 2007 she performed her solo A Nice Relationship in the Kazuo Ohno Festival at Bank Art 1929, and in the same year she launched the dance company Tokiirotamago. In Fall 2010 she will be performing as a resident artist for Hooyong Performing Arts Centre in Korea. She is constantly searching for the balance "to move" (learned from Western technique) and "to be moved" (learned from Butoh).
