Exile On Main Street, Ventilator Blues, Rolling Stones

lyrics:

When your spine is cracking and your hands, they shake,
Heart is bursting and you butt's gonna break.
Your woman's cussing, you can hear her scream,
You feel like murder in the first degree.
Ain't nobody slowing down no way,
Ev'rybody's stepping on their accelerator,
Don't matter where you are,
Ev'rybody's gonna need a ventilator.
When you're trapped and circled with no second chances,
Your code of living is your gun in hand.
We can't be bowed by beating, we can't be cowed by words,
Messed by cheating, ain't gonna ever learn.
Ev'rybody walking 'round,
Ev'rybody trying to step on their Creator.
Don't matter where you are, ev'rybody, ev'rybody gonna
Need some kind of ventilator, some kind of ventilator.
What you gonna do about it, what you gonna do?
What you gonna do about it, what you gonna do?
Gonna fight it, gonna fight it?

  • Superb song...superb performance...only surpassed by Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's EXCELLENT interpretation of this song...

  • @dimiballas - <- I became interested in this song when I heard 'Gatemouth' do it (at a blues festival in Maryland) - in fact I was so impressed I bought the album for this track. I uploaded the Stones version hoping people would 'discover' a fine but relatively obscure track. I have to agree with you however, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's version is brilliant. Perhaps I should post it.

  • this song makes me imagine myself driving a really old rusty pickup, rattling down the road through the desert, pouring sweat with a cigarette in my mouth and a bottle of whiskey in my hand.

  • IIIRC the house this was recorded at in France was a former Nazi SS headquarters and the wrought iron ventilator grates in the whole place had swastikas in the design, supposedly this inspired the writing of this song

  • does anyone have the tabs to this i'm tryin to learn it by ear and i'm having a hard time

  • @TheShakespeareBlues of what mick hating the band he was in? lol
