Please read!
First and foremost, I would like to apologize if the dialogue boxes go too fast for some to read them fully. I tried my best to keep the video as enjoyable as possible without exceeding YouTube's 11 minute time limit. Needless to say, I had to cut a few unnecessary scenes that weren't relevant to the focus of this video. If the dialoge does happen to go by too fast, please pause it on the box you intend to read.
The story of Breath of Fire 4 starts off with Cray and Princess Nina looking for Nina's missing sister, Princess Elina. They discover soon after the game starts that Elina was kidnapped by the enemy country, The Fou Empire. Even though they made it to where Elina was being held early on, they were captured and sent back to their own country. It didn't matter too much at that point in the game, however, due to the fact that Elina had already been merged with various creatures and had already begun to "grow". Much later in the game, towards the end, the group finally find Elina...but not how they expected to...
Can we have another BoF that we can ACTUALLY kill Yuna...that son of a bitch must die. I hate him so much D:
Anyway besides the sad part here, I wish Elina at least hugged Nina. :<

@Daosguard I said 2 was a sequel to 1. But since it takes place, what 500 years after the first its not going to kill you if you skip on one or the other As for 3 I never played it(Same with DQ) so I'm not going to go there. Clearelite asked if he needs to play the predecessors in order to understand the story for part 4. Either way the answer is NO, he does not(thought my friends tell me part 3 is really good). But thx for the clarification.

You're actually very wrong. BOF2 takes place 500 years after BOF1. It even says so during the game. BOF 3 takes place an indeterminate amount of time after BOF2. During BOF3 you see a mural depicting the battle of BOF between the heroes and Tyr, who was renamed Myria in BOF3. The elder explains that it is the history of his people, showing their fight throughout the ages against a great recurring evil.
Bof4 is never stated as having any connection to the other games.

@clearelite No it doesn't matter. Although fans have theories on how each game is connected, there is no definite proof that each is a chronological sequel to an earlier one. Though 2 is kinda a sequel to 1, each is its own story. Like ff games or tales.

@DyingXBreed lol, I'm staring it down on PSN right now myself. I will buy it in one form or another. Plan to play this one ASAP. Should I play the others first, or does it not matter?

@ShadowDragon00000 Anyway, Breath of Fire series are all perfect, the story (even if there's no connection between them ... ) are very interesting, full of action, drama, and everything that everyone love =D
Breath of Fire was my first game at PlayStation 1 and it was my first RPG, since them, I love Breath of Fire Series very much and I play all kind of RPGs =)

@Daosguard You're probably right. BoF3 was the first BoF I've ever played. I tried going back to BoF1 and 2 but they never really held my interest long enough for me to confirm a connection between the three. The monument is a pretty clear indication that they're connected, but since it portrayed the BoF1 characters, I always thought that BoF2 was of its own continuity.
However, I'm still pretty convinced BoF4 is of its own continuity, much like BoF5. Their story lines don't seem to mesh.

The first 3 are all definitely in the same world. It states in game that BOF2 takes place 500 years after BOF1. And at one point in the game, the BOF 2 Nina actually talks to the BOF1 Nina and finds out that the original Nina caused their clan to lose their power to transform into birds at will when she "married a man of another tribe" presumably the original Ryu.
In BOF 3 there is a Tapestry which shows the battle between the heroes and the Goddess Tyr/Myria.
