You hyper extend the elbow to cause pain. The pain cause uke to rise up on his toes. That makes uke lighter and easier to throw when tori lowers his hips. You can also add more pain by turning the wrist as you hyper extend the elbow. The throw isn't even needed. The elbow can also be broken from that position. The throw itself, which can cripple or kill the person if they don't know how to fall, is an added bonus to the pain and/or you cause the limb
this throw was done on the same side as the arm grabbed. is there anything that i need to know about it? like does he pull his wrist and make it a pressure point so that he flips over easily? or is it the basic parallel stance hip-raising throw?
I can remember attending a seminar at the Stanton KMAI dojong with GM Ji. Being a tall person, he chose me as Uke a few times. The one time, I thought for sure he'd ripped my arm clean off! There's video out there somewhere of that... I;d sure love to have it for posterity sake!

The hips low is the same pricipal in other throws. Find a Sin Moo Hapkido instructor for further inquires into the sublties of Hapkido technique.

The objetive of that "throw" in fact isn´t throwing... is to brake the opponent`s arm... (and after that... takedown)
