It is designed to tell the player that the game was not a dream or fantasy, but that Amagon actually encountered aliens who had entered the island from somewhere. It creates the expectation that they might appear elsewhere, hence the city lights, which also represent Amagon's return to civilization. It was an attempt to put in a "hook" for a possible sequel, should the game catch on.

Unlike the US version, the Japanese version shows us who's to blame for this clusterfuck game. Nice.

Nice, the best part is that I didn't have to suffer through the game. Neat ending, I love all the Engrish at the end.
