A classic fly for us here at Dakota Angler & Outfitter. We have used this fly for many years for black hills trout, bass, carp, and panfish. Tie it with or without a beadhead. Vary the colors from black to olive to brown. They all work. A great fly for a beginning fly tyer.

  • We match the marabou color to the color of the body and and the hackle. We use mostly black and olive versions for trout. White, Chartreuse and Root Beer variations work well for bass and carp.

  • Never thought of using a bead head on the wooly bugger as I have always used them as a leech pattern. Might be worth tying a few with the bead head and see how our New Brunswick brook trout like it.

You're right about it being an easy fly to tie and was one of the first flies I learned to tie.

I'm ready to tie a few wooly buggers for myself and a couple of fishing buddies interested in fly fishing for chain pickerel this year,

Excellent video and easy to follow, I have to embed it on my site.

  • can i youse it for put & take ??

  • Hi,

    Mike
