Is shunting in europe the same as switching in the US?

Perfect ))) Perfect, i like this ))

Lovely sounds. I have one Bachmann 08 fitted with the SWD sound unit. Very impressive. All my Hornby 08's/09's have factory fitted sound units. Pretty good.

could i ask where you got the accessories for your trucks ??

How about a brake van coupled to the 08? I remember seeing 08 900 as the station pilot at Bristol TM in the late 70s with a brake van attached to it. Apparently, the 08 on its own is too short to show up on track signalling circuits, so it has to have something attached to it. Plenty of room in a brake van for a speaker, and you could run the wires from the 08 to sthe speakers as 'air pipes'.

are those real chain coupleings? because i dont see any clip hooks or any of that sort.
Yes it is. Our 'switchers' tend to be smaller than those in the US and are gradually falling out of favour as switching is increasingly being carried out by the 'normal' locos. One or two US switching locos have found their way over here for use in private yards.

I'm not sure which accessories you're referring to, but the ballast is just OO gauge ballast on top of several layers of thick card cut to shape to form the gentle heaps. Pour the ballast over so you can't see any card and them fix with your favourite method, eg diluted PVA or Johnsons Klear.

I had thought about something like that but I've never heard of 08's running with match trucks, only 03's.

I do use Smiths 3-link couplers on some of my stock but these wagons are fitted with Kadees.

Thanks! I do like departmental stock. The heaps of ballast are dead easy; a bed of thick card, then cut out 3 ovals of the card and stick them on, then 3 slightly smaller ovals and stick them on top of the first 3. Let the whole thing dry then cover with ballast and wet with Johnsons Klear or dilute PVA. The Shark is from the Cambrian kit, completed just before Hornby released theirs. Doah!
