I think the media blew their statements out of proportion. USAF congratulated the IAF for following all rules of engagement flawlessly, never leaving the airspace, and basically doing what they were supposed to do. Most reports show that the IAF aircraft performed very well (aside from some trouble with engine procedure), and were better than F-15's and F-16's. But reports also said that IAF pilots were not completely accustomed to the jets and 1v1 fights greatly favored the US.

@souro19 I agree that the Mig 21 can be a strong oppent ewith a very qualified pilot. Even in Vietnam, a WWII prop plane took on a Mig 17 on two occassions.

But I wouldn't want to be a Mig 21 pilot. There's a reason why your nation calls it the "flying coffin."

@souro19 Sorry, but the Mig 29 sucks. The F-16 would have no trouble with it. The F-16 has better turn and bleed rates, and avionics, too. The Mig is toast.

The Su vs; the Hornet would be a cool match to see. The Hornet w/ its AESA would have an advantage at BVR, while at close range it would be interesting dogfight, which came down to the skill of the pilot. It would be a good fight. It's realy nonsense though. It's rare for 1v1 to happen so its all speculation.
