Former NFPA fire investigator Dave Demers introduces a documentary chronicling the historic fire MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The fire, which took place November 21, 1980, was the second largest loss-of-life hotel fire in the United States. The documentary, produced by the NFPA in 1981, examines how the fire began, the local response to the blaze, and how 85 people lost their lives in the incident.

Hero's Yes, if it wasn;t for Nellis Rescue it would have been worse. Before the MGM the Landmark, Hilton.had fires. None of the sprinklers at the Silver nugget were ever hooked up. They all were dummy;s all of the mirrors at the casinos were petroleum based and vaporized when exposed to the heat causing the fireball effect. Thankyou Harry Reed.

MY brother was a security guard at the hotel the day of the fire. I worked there after they reopened the hotel in 1981. ANyway my brother has zero respect for the fire department that was there at the scene. He said there was money stolen from the casino area by the fire department.
