very nice engine it looks to me like it has the low tension make and break ignition am i correct?

Would this engine be a good choice for running a generator? How long does a gallon of gas last in one of these?

@SthealthRaider In 1917 they WERE 'normal' engines. It fires every several revolutions when it slows down. Our 2010 engines fire every 4th stroke whether they slow down or not.

Nice. Now I want one.

Nice little engine. Get it all cleaned up and painted nice and it could be a show winner.

not really, a hit and mis system is self regulating so the engine drives at a constant speed and power even when it is loaded more heavily :P
-
A hit and miss engine only fires when the revs drop to a certain level, this means that as you load the engine harder it fires more often and the revs stay constant. While it's not firing the exhaust valve is held open and the engine is coasting on the flywheels.

whats the diff between a hit and miss and a 4 stroke???? and why isnt this engine running the whole time like normal engines?
I would never paint such an original engine. The vast majority of engine enthusiasts much prefer the original weathered paint to new paint any day. I have several engines that were so badly corroded that I had no choice but to refinish them, though.
