Julia Sweeney takes on Deepak Chopra and the New Age co-opt of Quantum Mechanics. I had a lot of fun putting this together. From Julia Sweeney's one-woman show "Letting Go of God." More info at http://www.juliasweeney.com

  • I love Julia. She drives home the point that humor and warmth are neither the invention, nor the property, of religion or "spirituality".

And of course, she knows perfectly well the answer to her rhetorical question: "What is the matter with people?". The answer is that noone wants to get old, or believe that "this is all there is", or to realize that she or he is not going to survive death in some magic kingdom, but merely cease to exist. And that there's $ in pretending none of this is true.

  • Oh man, this segment was so hilarious. Wth *The Secret* gaining so much popularity, the relevance of this topic has gone through the roof. Thank you Julia for encouraging people to use their brains in a compelling and entertaining manner.

  • quantum mechanics proves that the universe is nonlocal. particles can coorelate faster then the speed of light no matter how far apart.perception can alter physical reality. . the reason julia didnt get anything out of spirituality is she approached it out of faithshe wasnt empirical. she never acheived any higher consciousness. she took a quantum physics class at a community college and expeted they were goona teach spirituality? science has its own dogma.

  • ya what she said

  • Brilliant! I loathe Deepcrap and his gross misrepresentation of science.

  • I found this funny lady via a Reddit comment. Great job on the montage! It accompanies her material really well.

  • This lady rocks!

  • You can find it at Amazon. She's also made a DVD of it.

  • Great presentation. Do you have the rest of the monologue? Would love to hear it all. Thanks for posting it.
