What's the point of this car? I just bought the wife a Honda Fit Sport AT for 18,600 out the door, it is a much larger car and has averaged 37 Hwy and 32 City MPG. This car simply misses the mark, it's too expensive and it doesn't get good enough gas mileage.
I'll give up space when I can get 45-50 MPG and when the car is cheaper than larger cars.

I think the problem with the iQ is that, here in the U.S., there are a lot of great cars for the almost $16K asking price of the iQ....and thats a base iQ with hubcaps etc. A car that can only hold 3 people and no luggage (save for a briefcase in the 4th half seat). If it got mega mileage, I could see it but lots of larger, more powerful compacts get 40 mpg+ and hold 4-5 passengers PLUS cargo. The iQ like the Smart ONLY makes sense if you live in a very crowded city...otherwise, shop elsewhere.

@lawnmowerdude it got 43 in the city and 58 on the highway

@oowmmr I'm sure the european version does but basically every car that is available in europe that is brought over to the US is planted with a larger less efficient engine. Even this iQ suffers from that. In europe this car has a 1 liter engine with 68hp and manages to get about 65 mpg too.

@cheffington999 Nevermine 80's cars being death traps. Did that 80's Datsun get over 36 mpg in city milage?
-
This car over seas gets much better mileage due to having a smaller engine, somewhere in the mid 60's but us Americans are not willing to give up power for better mileage for some reason. But 36 mpg in the city is a good number for a car sold in the US.
Carefully Scion Apple might Sue you for the use of the lowercase i. =)
