Yes, this story is called "The Golem" and it was written by my father, Avram Davidson.
If you want to read the orignal, it is in the Avram Davidson Treasury. I'm pretty sure that you can get it on Amazon. My name is Ethan Davidson, the Book was edited by my mother Grania Davis, and I wrote the introduction to a couple of the stories in the book. It is good to see that my g=fathers work lives on. and that young people still read it.
