The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún is a previously unpublished work by J.R.R. Tolkien, written while Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford during the 1920s and 30s, before he wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It makes available for the first time Tolkiens extensive retelling in English narrative verse of the epic Norse tales of Sigurd the Völsung and The Fall of the Niflungs. It includes an introduction by J.R.R. Tolkien, drawn from one of his own lectures on Norse literature, with commentary and notes on the poems by Christopher Tolkien.

  • Yeah, because everyone of Germanic blood is a Nazi. How about this: you stop typing with your ass, and I'll go back to reading quality literature like The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun.

  • Nice to know the big T. still has some words for us in still stuck in Middle - to - not - Middle Earth

  • How bout a nice hardback edition of his Beowulf?

  • This is a real book, it just isn't a novel, it is a poem, there is no evidence that Tolkien never planned to publish this, he died before he completed all of his work. This is an original poem it isn't just a translation, and anyone who buys this as fantasy needs to learn to read jacket covers because Tolkien was not just a writer but a great philologist and his work in languages was his initial inspiration for almost all of his work.

  • the problem is that people buy it because of the name and because of the fantasy genre that its linked to. This is because Tolkiens son wants to make some good money. Tolkien never wanted this work to be published. I really love the work. But it isn't fantasy, it isn't even a real book. His son should have just published his father version of the poem, with his fathers words on the myths as introduction, instead of making an entire book out of it and presenting it as something that it isn't

  • I hear you brother. My only hope in light of this work is that people buy it for the rich legend - not for the name of the author. Although.. with such a big-name author, perhaps more will be drawn to it?

  • I can you are a very learned individual....your IQ must be in the teens.......

  • Too true......The Days of Legends.....glorious
