Despite the downturn, the Middle East's aviation industry is still growing strongly. Carriers here are still buying new planes - and they need thousands of new pilots to fly them. But help is at hand, from a rather unlikely location - Aqaba in Southern Jordan -- where one man has set up a flight academy to put trainees through their paces. Ben Thompson went along to meet the new pilots earning their wings.

I would like to say what an exceptional academy they are!!!
The active involvement of the CEO, instructors, staff, and students in all aspects of the life and work of Ayla Academy is very impressive.

I have visited many of the training schools in the Middle East and the facilities and ethos of school and the commitment of its leadership are outstanding. They are training pilots to be future managers and leaders and not just systems operators.
