Scenes from various first-person view flights on an Asctec "X-3D-BL" quadrocopter.

This has got to be the closest we'll get to feeling like a bird...

Recorded on the castle ruins above Kallmünz, a meadow near Zaar/Kallmünz, the parks on the Danube in Regensburg-Prüfening, and on a hill above Großprüfening.

  • what kind of camera do you use here? can you mount a lightweight digital camera on the quadricopter?

  • That was a very small CCD camera with a wide-angle lens which just weighs around 30g, powered off the flight battery - this little load doesn't impact the flight behavior much. I have flown the X-BL with a regular compact digital camera (150g camera with batteries + 50g for the camera mount/landing gear), but with that much payload it will not fly as comfortably anymore.
