  • @Lauraa4023 It's fine, all opinions are welcome! You seem far more mature than 15! Kudos to you! Now where's my Maggie Thatcher bronze head....

  • @TalentSpotter83 Fair enough :) I'm just a 15 year old kid, I don't really know!

  • @Lauraa4023 The placement of the fountain, bridge and 'mini-garden' provides a nice counter-point to the hussle and bussle of shopping, plus it provides a nice stark contrast to the drab façade of the shops. It has a nice 'feng shui' feel to it. As for Regent Arcade, I like the aeroplane and clock models, they give it a nice quirkiness. For me, I just find it strange to have a bronze cast of someone's head....I dunno, just seems oddly incongruent with its surroundings.

  • @TalentSpotter83 I see your point, but I suppose they wanted to display it where the public could appreciate it. I mean, the Beechwood arcade has a fountain and river in it, with seating and a bridge. So I think the statue is in quite a good place! Just like the Regent arcade has that gold model of an aeroplane, and a huge wishing clock. Kind of strange, but it gives the place character, and makes Cheltenham the awesome place that it is! Also, where else could they put it? :)

  • @Lauraa4023 No reply is late, just slowly forthcoming. In my defence Lauraa4023 Q.C, I referred to the oddity of having a bronze cast statue-head in a shopping arcade. I understand the connection Mr. Jones had to Cheltenham (after being embarrassingly 'de-briefed' by GCHQ afterwards: I never recovered my Transformers briefs though!). Therefore, from a personal standpoint, stating the statue-head as being "bizarre/peculiar" is perfectly valid given it's a matter of taste. Thank you anyway. ;-)

  • @TalentSpotter83 Obviously this is 3 years late, and you may well know the answer by now, or at least no longer care, but Brian Jones was born in Cheltenham. Therefore there is nothing at all "bizarre/peculiar" about his head being displayed in the arcade :)

  • so i was wrong to think that Cheltenham was still one of the few places in England that remianed very English and mostly white ?

  • @EnglishFolker Thanks. You sound like a sensible individual. My colleagues have an office in the Crescent and its most impressive!

  • @gracefulzamalek ..i know the crescent is full of offices ect...i was joking about the kerba house...i do know cheltenham very well..i live there..

  • @EnglishFolker No its not, the Crescent consists of professional offices, private apartments and a couple of large, expensive private homes. Its one of the most important examples of Regency architecture in Cheltenham. Come and look!
