I'm from the UK like Carr.

To clarify - it is about price.

Venison's deer (the animal) isn't it.

Venison's dear (expensive) isn't it.

Part of the confusion is that the word dear to describe a high price tag isn't used much outside the UK. (Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Americans use it in that context?)

And venison is and always has been really dear (expensive) here in the UK.

Plus venison refers to the meat itself rather than the animal, so wouldn't be described as cute.
