Hispanics who have gone to college rank their parents as being the most influential in their decision to continue their schooling. However, recent studies have shown that more than 65% of Hispanic parents do not have the knowledge to guide their children as they seek to apply and enroll in college.*
The "Your Words Today" campaign is an effort to raise awareness among Hispanic parents about the critically important role they play in encouraging their children to go to college.
Parents are reminded that, De tus palabras de hoy depende su mañana (Their tomorrow depends on your words today), and directed to visit the website www.YourWordsToday.org or call 1-877-HSF-8711 for resources on getting involved in their childrens college education. The website and toll-free number offer inspiration and tools to better understand that college and financial aid process.
It's a great commercial. Obviously your chances of having a better career come from going to college. There really is no arguing that. Of course there are exceptions to this rule but after working in HR, the first thing we look at it education because many jobs have education requirements. Telling kids to go to school is necessary and it is pretty stupid of people to get offended by telling kids to go to school.

First of all this public service ad really pisses me off !! :( There are lots of well qualified well-skilled well-trained people who have gone to vocational/ technical colleges and found good careers with good salarys who live in nice average middle class homes , who did find success WITHOUT necccesarily going to a 4 year academic institution like a USC, UCLA , Stanford , Harvard or Yale. So whats the big deal about some guy ( Hispanic or any race ) not wanting to go to a real college???

I don't think that it is really fair for the image of Hispanics to portray them as unable/unwilling to go to college but I do agree with this ad. I don't think it is offensive because many/most hispanic people are newer immigrants and their parents who didn't grow up in America do not know how to guide them to college, even though they love them. College is so important for everyone. EVERYONE is cut out for college. And everyone no matter what age has potential.

@balthorpayne There is a certain number of people who aren't "cut out for college". There is a greater number of people who don't get the basic education to prepare them for college. There is a big difference between the two.

I really don't think that this ad is helpful. I worked while training vocationally and have a fantastic job that I love. There are opportunities for promotion and it pays very well. All this and I'm a high school drop out.
