This is a video montage that I have filmed and edited for university. Please leave me feedback, even if you do not like it. :) I'd like to know what some of you think about the concepts I explored. Cheers!

I created a video blog explaining this montage. Go here if you want to view that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkuCfXIhM6s

the song 'happiness' was used from web site hitrecord.org. it is a royalty free web site that allows artists to share their work within the community.

  • I really wanted to see the lift door open when you met up with it. Slack! ;) Spatial Montage is used well both with the split screen (suggesting choice) and the four-screen ending (suggesting multiplicity). The robotic sound of the narrator's voice in the nature section brings a certain tension and irony, but the content of the poem feels almost too matched-up with the images for me, losing a sense of metaphor as a result. Overall a moody and engaging montage with an intellectual bent.

  • @MarioMontage many thanks. ;) when i put the final result together, i thought the exact same thing (wanting the elevator door to open). considering i was in the editing process, i wasn't keen on reshooting that; besides, i plan on expanding on this idea further in the future. please forgive the momentary lapse of reason. as for the poem, if you would believe it, it was actually quite coincidental. i noticed the coincidence and went with it. :D thanks for the feedback. merry summer. :)

  • I really love the use of voice over and split screens. Especially when the lift and the staircase come together on the ground floor. Good work. Well done Nic :)

  • @nirmalamartis many thanks nirmala. it was fun to edit, albeit took forever. ;D

  • @gregelectro many thanks greg. good to hear from you. :P

  • @SazzyIsHere i actually don't know. i got it from a web site that offers up royalty free art. the clip is very short, but i liked how it sounded so i used it. :D i would put the URL to it in this comment, but youtube won't allow it. i'll put it in the description. :)

  • @SazzyIsHere thanks! hahaha, yeah, it really does have a portal feel. to be honest, i just thought the robot lady sounded much better than the robot man. :D

  • @princeword thank you very very much martin! the idea with the robot voice was to sort of give that affect of an in-human touch, but also give it some personality as well. the voice, at one point, uses the word, "I" as if to give the narrator a sense of humanity.

i've wanted to do something with decision in real-time for a long while. i will probably drill the idea further down in the future.

thanks for the comments. i really appreciate it!!

  • I find this very interesting. The computer-voice gives it both an inhuman approach (despite the female simulation) but also a projected message which is not based on dialect. This could have been done by anyone on earth with a computer. It is not British, it is not Brazilian. It is universal and therefor we devote more attention to the visual.

I like the decision part which uncovers the eternal question we always ask ourselves: "What if I.. instead."

    indeed, what if?

  • @Panatrex thanks man! the shots i took during that segment is at the thames barrier park that i live right next to. enjoy your summer as well!! cheers. :)
