This short video is the first of several that I intend to upload in which I will demonstrate the sounds that the various DCC sound decoders make in different locomotives so that anyone interested can hear how they sound prior to purchasing one type or another.
This video features a Bachmann Class 20 which actually came with a sound decoder already fitted. However, this sound was not good so we decided to send it to Howes Models for a reblow with their own Class 20 sounds. The difference was amazing and I think you will find that this sound is probably the best Class 20 around!
We do not demonstrate the sounds that the locomotive makes while it is moving but we have posted other videos here on YouTube that demonstrate that quite well already.
There are actually 12 Functions with this decoder, including Aux 1 and Aux 2 at F11 and F12 respectively. We demonstrate here F1 to F8 only because F9 is Shunting Mode so is an operational function rather than a sound while F10 is Acceleration / Deceleration Override which, again, is operational rather than a sound function.
As with most decoders, certain of the Functions need to be reset after use, by repeating them, in order to make them available for use again. In this instance it is F2 - F4 (Horns) and F8 Flange Squeal.
sounds nice
