  • yay now you get to hit a hook...... Bad tip. Its all in the hands. Fix the way your hands are on the club. Don't think about flipping your wrists, thats how you start getting in the habit of hitting hard hooks

  • Hí Golfers

Shank(=socket)problem came from a backswing who is to FLAT, it must be more upright!

  • Just read other comments, what this guy is saying is simply ONE way of fixing a singular, specific cause of shanking. It's not the only cause however. Those of you who says he is wrong - don't know what your talking about :( even though your own explanation may be correct. Very often, with a bad 'shanker' there will be more than one factor. Weak grip/open face, severe out/in - in/out, weight on heels, too close, wrong equipment, poor coordination, early extension, poor ball position. That's why

  • I would find the cause of the open face 1st. Normally in my experience it's through a poor grip, notably the top hand (in the palm not fingers and week). You'll normally get an out/ in swing path with that too :-/.

  • Gripping base ball grip causes a more active release through impact so really, your doing as he suggests. If you note at the start he says shanks can be cause by the open face (narrow hitting angle). If you start rotating the face through impact, and judge it right the face will be full & square through strike. If you over do it you'll hook but better than shank.

  • It took me a while to realize that my golf clubs are about two inches too long for me. Its surprising that you don't hear many instructors tell you to check for this. Try gripping down if youre inconsistent and/or have steep divots.

  • all I can say is thank you Jay.

  • I'd rather hit a hook then a SHANK, i can work with a hook.

  • hahaha "you will turn that shank into a nice hook"

    thanks alot jackass

  • I could give you a list a mile long of all the "tips" given to cure shanks. Many of them even contradict each other. The bottom line is that you can't shank if you're not closer to the ball on contact than you were at address. The advice in the video is dangerous if you shank chips and short pitches because the last think you want in these shots is to roll your right wrist over. There is no simple fix!

  • @ayrshirekev01 Bro, I thought I was the only one who did this! Just like you, I also grip my wedges with a baseball grip and that really helped cure my shanks. So , I fully agree.

  • this tip is right and mirrors what jimmy bullard says-that is keep your the back of your left hand facing the target on impact and the toe passing the heel through the ball
