This song is basically about true love. It seems to refer to a relationship that is weakening because they're afraid to share their deepest thoughts and feelings, and instead keep it to themselves (We're fighting for ourselves, fighting for our lives) And he is asking to abandon this fear, and is desperate to make things better. (I want to see us work dear.) So "Let me see the world behind your eyes" means essentially, let me know how you're feeling, I want to be there for you. How's that? ^.^

This is why Jon Foreman is my all time fave artist. his work in Switchfoot is amazing, Fiction Family is sweet and solo hits my soul and connects to me in a great way. :) God Bless Jon Foreman!
