Impeded by delays of which some were unintentional - a slowdown in KCR service due to an electrical malfunction at Hung Hom - while others were purely planned - stopping at a Fairwood to snack - our zealous group of travelers barely made it to the starting line, a grimy bus terminus in Shenzhen. Once seated comfortably in our sleeper seats, however, we relaxed enough to allow our trip to really begin. The 11-hour overnight journey to Yangshou city passed quickly enough thanks to a nightshade and a pair of earplugs which rendered my body so senseless as to produce instantaneous repose; and my dread of traffic calamity, intensified after my harrowing experience on the highways of Yunnan, thankfully remained deprived at least for that evening of that disaster which fuels future nightmares and tabloid headlines, and of which death is the likely, only outcome. Refreshed and ready to challenge China, I woke up to find an ethereal scene out my window.

  • i took two of these buses about 7 hours each and it was the most scariest ride ever, we were on the mountain road with only two lanes and the buses was going onto oncoming lane to pass even when the cars are about 20 meter before we hit and there is no such thing as braking before turns i almost rolled out of my bunk many times and weird how the bus doesn't tip over doing 100 kph turns

  • @scvs2 Thanks for sharing; I'm glad you survived!

  • I have to say you guys are very brave. Sleeping bus in China has the highest accident rate. Avoid night bus in china next time. Take a overnight train or day-time bus.

  • @bigcatbh Yeah, on second thought, that was pretty dangerous :)

  • Went to Guangzhou?

  • Yangshuo in Guangxi Province

  • Well there was one positive side when i was going from gulin back to Guangzhou i paid extra to go onto a non sleeper bus...any how i was amazed at the bus i was on huge leather seats only 3 seats each roll 2 by 1 and you would not believe how quiet the bus is you can barely hear the engine and it was pretty cool how we were the only ones on the highway

  • Thanks for info! Finally know what those bus looks like.
