Percy Penguin first appeared with Trina Brown on TVW Channel 7 in Perth in 1969, during the black and white era. Fat Cat appeared on the scene to coincide with the introduction of color TV to Australia in 1975, at a time when Sandy Palmer was hosting the children's program. Both animal characters feature at the annual Channel Seven Christmas Pageant, and mainly Fat Cat in the goodnight boys and girls segment each night on TVW Channel 7.

  • TVW Perth's Sales Manager Greg Byrne and his wife Judith came up with the Fat Cat concept. Fat Cat also appeared on SAS, after SAS Adelaide was bought by TVW. The national Fat Cat and Friends was produced at SAS in Adelaide.

  • @watvhistory did this continue after SAS & ADS swapped channels? Was a station with 10 programming producing a 7 show for the other metro markets?

  • i miss those ads

    bring them back!!!

  • CGI Fat Cat isn't as good as the REAL Fat Cat!

  • Was that on Saturday mornings too? We had competitions like "Find Fat Cat" and "Percy's Treasure" hunt. You sent in entries for them and they rang up the kid when they pulled an entry out of the barrel. They had colouring comps and did a lot of outside broadcasts. Probably similar in Adelaide. I remember you had Rock Wallaby and a character called Charlie on FC and Friends and they got replaced with one called Tee Dee or something. Were they on the Fun Show too?

  • and I recall SAS had Fat Cat cohost an Adelaide only breakfast cartoon show "Super Flying Fun Show" if I remember correctly.

  • TVW Enterprises utilised the studios of TVW 7 and SAS 10 to make quite a number of programs. In TVW, the first version of Family Feud was made with Tony Barber before it was moved east, $50,000 Letterbox was also made at TVW. SAS studios were utilised to make a show called What in the World?...a bit like Curiosity Show. I recall this was in 70s.

  • Art looks pretty good, although a bit stiff on the animation.

Any chance you can upload the other versions of this, the underwater one and the jungle one?

  • I thought Fat Cat was an Adelaide thing.
