  • Furtwangler was overall a wonderful conductor, but I'm afraid to say, he totally stuffed up the ending to the 8th. I've never heard a more confused, jumbled mess. If it was his intention, then he did a good job, but in my opinion, he butchered what could have been a magnificent finale. I recommend Klemperer's or Celibidache's interpretation over this.

  • Oh!!!EPIC FINALE!!EEEEPIC!!!!!

  • @jonathanaconway totally agree! or anybody able to hear at last 13 chords all main themes of all 4 movements simultaneously?

  • grandiose! Le finale, quoi!

  • grandiose!

  • I liked this performance until the last minute. Was Furtwangler late for another appointment? It is faster and less defined than any other performance of the 8th that I have ever heard. Or was the ending from another version of this symphony? Bruckner was revising this symphony until the day he died.

  • What a fantastic, triumphal ending! Thanks for posting this Giovanni EMB.
