The late, great John Hartford tells the story of when he first heard Texas Shorty play Dusty Miller. This was Rockygrass 2000, the last time Shorty saw Hartford before he died. For more info on Texas Shorty, go to www.texasshorty.com

  • and the very talented Bob Carlin on banjo.

  • @chrsitiethebarber There's only one God child.

  • @kenhill295 Funny. Shorty turned me onto John.

  • VALE John Hartford. A better old-time style musician - who did so very much in keeping the old traditions alive so well & for so long, will not be found for a long time to come. JH was also an engrossing story-teller ..his tale told here is a perfect demo of these rare traits. And Texas Shorty is a fine companion for JH here as well. All serious JH fans should already have his very last album "Hamilton Ironworks" in their music collections. Gene Goforth's Rounder CD is also a must-get !!

  • Simply awesome. John turned me on to Shorty right after they did a CD together. I'd never heard such fiddling! I kept the CD in my car for about 5 years. John got really sick that summer and looked even worse than he does here. That fall he came to stay with us and looked great! The next few months were a rapid decline. I still miss him every single day.

  • This man is a GOD.

  • If you have any more of this performance please post it, it's wonderful. Thanks for sharing it.

  • The new breed, and they're great, but they don't know anything about rhythm and timing. This is an education on how a breakdown should be played. Smooth.
