Each state has a replica of the Independence Bell in Philadelphia. Most are underglass or untouchable. Iowa has theirs out for people to ring just like our forefathers did in 1776.

  • @Koseiko2008 Every one of these bells I've found online has that same frame and bars. They must have been made that way. I'm thinking maybe the force of the clapper hitting it when swinging was the reason the original cracked, and they did that to protect them?

  • Love it, love it, love it. Our state has their bell hidden away in storage where no one can see it. I'm trying to shame them into putting it back out.

  • Idaho's bell sits in front of the Capitol and can be rung like this one. Utah's sits inside the Capitol but can still be rung. Oregon's sits forgotten at the side of the Capitol building, but the wooden headstock is collapsing and steel supports under the bell prevent it from resonating.

  • I'm shocked! They actually allow the public to ring that bell? In San Francisco, they would have placed it high and havve the clapper removed! (I don't like those bars welded across the frame (or cage) as to prevent the swing, which gives it the Doppler dynamic). I suppose they can't trust the public in that regard.

  • that like right in front of my moms office
