Robert E.Lee is my 5th greatest grandfather. I don't agree with everything he did ,but he is still part of my blood. Thankyou for sharing the pictures.

@Wingatewasright Not really service of evil, he was just on the "wrong" side. Sure the south's stance on slavery was wrong but he was a brave man, he loved his family and was a brilliant general who was loved by his men and respected by his enemies. It is like Rommel, he was undoubtedly a hero and yet he fought for the Nazis. The world is not split into goodies and baddies, sometimes good men fight for wrong reasons or visa versa. Lee fought to defend his home and family and so i salute him.

Despite having some admirable qualities Lee chose to use his talents in the service of evil. The man picked a side, the side of backwardness, ignorance, idleness, exploitation and inhumanity and should not be considered in any way a hero.

@janeeatsrainbows why are you here?
-
@janeeatsrainbows Ohh and i don't like the confederacy either. i don't believe in war. and honestly i don't want to argue with you because you have different beliefs.We all believe in different things.i just don't think he should be idolized is all.

@SuperEnglishSpeaker i'm was born and raised in the south.i don't think either side was really right,but slavery got abolished and isn't that all that really matters?Just because i live in the south doesn't mean i think backwards and idolized people that hated black people.i don't think there should have even been a war.Don't tell me what i do and don't know.

@janeeatsrainbows Lol, that's cute. You probably also belief the Confederacy was all evil and stopped by the loving, kind Union. The north was just as racist, and Lee is twice the man Grant was (who owned slaves by the way). Lee was an admirable, brave person. You also probably think The Civil War was fought over slavery lol. Our schools just want you to hate the south.

he is not a hero. he was racist.slavery is a terrible dark part of american history. this man should not be idolized.

@verziehen You keep dodging my arguments and never responded directly to any of my claims. Apparently you were so desperate to make your points you had to say that you are historian and have walked Civil War Trails. Did the spirits talk to you on the trail? You were the one who was twisting my words. You said Lee was a butcher and how the south "butchered" thousands. Did I ever say that you were fan of Grant or Sherman? I gave you historic facts regarding to your previous comment.

@expertstrategy Lee was indeed responsible ... as Pontius Pilate was for the death of Jesus Christ. Pilate washed his hands declaring he was "innocent of the blood of this just person". Lee like many leaders conveniently forgot that responibility comes with power. For him, like us all, there will be a day of reckoning and all excuses will amount to guilt.
Robert E Lee. some say he fought on the wrong side of history, he didn't and further more the victor writes the history and despite all he cost the victor he is still looked very kindly upon by history, as it should be.

I'm from the orth and the south was justified in all of their actions. Its only because of government that this war was fought and it was government that hid the truth and teaches children the south was fighting for slavery.
