  • No one can touch Sutherland, as always.

Cappuccilli è possente e molto incisivo (troppo)

    mancano, oltre agli Dei:

Tibbet, McNeal, Nucci, Warren, Bastianini, Bruson, Hvorostovky

  • @Richiesutherland

    nuts...

  • Gruberova ALWAYS with the awful quasi-Viennese scoop to the wobby high tone! She infected a whole generation of the girls (Dessay, Damrau, for two examples) who apparenty think this is not only acceptable, but desirable!

  • Milnes and Sutherland win this for me, Sutherland's high Eb is amazing, and Milnes sings beautifully and manages to also have a mastery of legato lines and acting with the voice. Cappuccilli and Contrubas come second, with the ending being the only let down. I like Wixell a lot actually, and Protti has the most exciting start but Tucci is a tad shrill for my tastes. Fischer-Dieskau's is a noble attempt, but for me it is a little too elegant and light, Scotto however is wonderful.

  • @Kafkandinsky I understand =) I mean, his voice sounds "forced" to me, it's like it was hard for him to sing...sorry, my english is not so good, I can't find the right words =)

  • Quite unfair to Wixell. His prime was between 60's and 70's. People tend to misjudge Wixell voice, but in his prime he really had a fantastic voice, worthy of mention. Not my favourite though, since I prefer Titto Gobbi or Cappuccilli in this role

  • @mire2007

Wixell voice might sound light on recording, but in an opera house it was really huge.

  • @brolobear Mr Milnes had those top notes, as did Mr Warren, who I understand is a baritone Mr Milnes admires very much .... You're lucky to have an acquaintance like Mr. Milnes

  • @casalhug hahahahahahaha!
